In a strategic move, Mike Parr has been appointed chief executive of PML Seafrigo UK and Ireland, nearly a year following the acquisition of Perishable Movements Limited (PML) by French shipping giant Seafrigo. This leadership transition comes amid a broader restructuring of the company’s management team.
Ryan Parr, who has been instrumental in project direction, has been promoted to the role of operations director. His focus will be on ensuring efficient and seamless transfers of temperature-sensitive goods by air, ocean, and road.
Seafrigo Group’s chief executive, Eric Barbé, expressed confidence in Mike Parr’s appointment, highlighting his expertise in the perishable goods sector. Barbé noted Parr’s impressive reputation and extensive knowledge as key factors in the decision, viewing him as the ideal candidate to drive PML Seafrigo’s growth.
Mike Parr reflected on this opportunity with enthusiasm, acknowledging the potential for leveraging the combined resources of PML and Seafrigo to enhance the company’s reputation in logistics and supply chain solutions. His decision to stay active in the industry underscores his passion for the fast-paced logistics sector.
The acquisition of PML by Seafrigo last year was a strategic move to gain control of PML’s Border Control Posts, bonded warehouse facilities, and customs handling services in the UK. This bolstered Seafrigo’s strategy to maintain comprehensive control over the cold chain, minimising reliance on third-party services.
Seafrigo’s expansion plans extend beyond the UK, as emphasised by regional chief executive Jason Spencer-Knox. The company’s goal is to become the largest integrated perishable supply chain provider worldwide. This ambition is further supported by the introduction of the London to New York LCL shipping service, providing fine food producers with new export opportunities.
These strategic changes position PML Seafrigo for significant growth and enhanced service delivery in the logistics sector.
