Cross-border payments platform PingPong has agreed a strategic partnership with Getnet, the payments business of Santander Group, to expand into Spain and Portugal, the two companies announced on 19 October.
The deal gives global businesses already using PingPong a way to collect and manage payments in Iberia on the same infrastructure they use elsewhere, with Getnet providing the local payments capability. Neither company disclosed the financial terms.
Aaron Xu, general manager for Europe and the Americas at PingPong, described Iberia as “one of Europe’s most valuable commerce markets”, adding: “The 750,000+ businesses in our network want to operate there on payment infrastructure they already trust. Our move into Iberia is the latest step in an ongoing global expansion, driven by rising customer demand and sustained investment in our international growth.”
Founded in 2015, PingPong describes itself as a cross-border business-to-business payments platform. According to the company, it supports more than 750,000 businesses in over 200 countries, processes more than $300bn a year, holds more than 80 financial licences and operates from 44 offices in 18 countries.
Getnet’s European push
The partnership follows a wider move by Getnet into the European market. On 6 October, Santander announced that Getnet had extended its European platform so that merchants can reach more than 30 countries through a single integration, called Getnet Single Entry Point. According to Santander, the service supports 20 currencies and payouts to 140 countries, and gives access to local payment methods such as Bizum in Spain and MB WAY in Portugal.
Getnet processed more than €238bn across 10.5 billion transactions in 2025 and serves 1.2 million clients, Santander said. It ranks as the largest acquirer in Latin America by purchase volume and among the top ten globally, and operates in Brazil, Mexico, Chile, Argentina and Uruguay, as well as Spain and Portugal.
Fabrice Mendez, global head of partnerships at Getnet, said the agreement was “another important milestone in Getnet’s strategy to expand our open-market business across Europe while strengthening the connections between Iberia and one of the world’s fastest-growing commerce ecosystems”.
“By combining PingPong’s strong presence across Asia with Getnet’s leadership in Europe and Latin America, we are creating new opportunities for international merchants to grow with a seamless and trusted payment experience,” he said.
For PingPong, the agreement means working with a bank-owned acquirer that already has established coverage in both Spain and Portugal, rather than building local payments capability in the two markets itself.
