UrbanChain, a prominent player in the renewable energy sector, has strategically relocated its headquarters to the expansive Base at Manchester Science Park. This decision comes as part of the company’s broader growth ambitions across the UK and Europe. The new 4,000 sq ft space, located in the heart of Manchester’s knowledge quarter, is expected to facilitate the recruitment of top talent necessary to support the company’s expansion plans. Engaging closely with the Bruntwood SciTech team, UrbanChain has crafted a workspace that reflects its commitment to sophistication and innovation, marking a significant milestone in its corporate journey.
Backed by leading European investment group Eurazeo, UrbanChain stands as the United Kingdom’s foremost provider of peer-to-peer energy exchange services. The company has effectively decoupled renewable energy transactions from the unpredictable wholesale market, creating a streamlined marketplace that allows renewable energy generators to sell directly to consumers. This model offers a sustainable solution that is free from reliance on governmental subsidies, significantly enhancing affordability and accessibility of green energy for diverse consumer bases including office buildings, data centres, and housing associations.
The newly established office at Base uniquely supports UrbanChain’s commitment to sustainability through its numerous eco-friendly features. The building achieves Net Zero Carbon status in communal areas and leverages advanced sustainability measures such as an A-rated EPC, expansive PV solar power installations, a hybrid heating and cooling system, and the use of recycled materials in interior finishes. This alignment further underscores UrbanChain’s dedication to operating within environments that reflect its core values and environmental priorities.
In a recent statement, Somayeh Taheri, Founder and CEO of UrbanChain, expressed enthusiasm about the company’s continued growth and innovation. “With a team rapidly growing beyond 50 people, we are delighted to call Base our new home. Ofgem’s recent grant of an electricity supply licence marks another breakthrough in our journey,” she stated. This development allows UrbanChain to offer enhanced green energy options to consumers while providing renewable generators with greater autonomy and control. As UrbanChain embarks on a Series B fundraise, the new office environment is poised to bolster the company’s UK and international expansion efforts.
Josh Whiteley, Commercial Director at Bruntwood SciTech, reiterated support for UrbanChain’s advancement. “From starting out with a single desk at our Manchester Technology Centre at Circle Square in 2018, we’ve witnessed their growth and are thrilled to support them as they continue to scale,” he remarked. This transition to a sophisticated office setup at Base marks a pivotal point in UrbanChain’s trajectory, underscoring the company’s evolution and its commitment to fostering a sustainable business model within the renewable energy landscape.
UrbanChain’s relocation and strategic initiatives signal its strong commitment to leading the renewable energy market.
