Old Haulage, a family-run company based in Blaydon, recently underscored the efficiency of MV Commercial in fulfilling urgent fleet requirements. After securing a new contract necessitating a specialised vehicle, Old Haulage leveraged MV Commercial’s readiness by acquiring a refurbished Volvo FH equipped with a Cormach Serie 75000 crane and fly jib. This vehicle was promptly deployed for a local housebuilding project, specifically to install roof trusses, a task previously reliant on mobile cranes.
Amanda Old, director of Old Haulage, indicated that the initially discussed needs during business negotiations included a flatbed body with a heavy-duty fly jib for upcoming new builds. Recognising a significant delay in the delivery of newly ordered vehicles, with lead times exceeding one year, Old Haulage selected MV Commercial’s stocked solution for immediate availability. Amanda Old observed that waiting for a custom order could have resulted in losing the contract to quicker competitors.
In addition to the refurbished Volvo FH, MV Commercial also provided a new 44-tonne Volvo FH 6×4 tractor unit featuring a robust Palfinger PK 78002 crane. This acquisition follows a prior purchase of an identical model equipped with a HIAB X-HIPRO 858 crane one year ago, highlighting a continuing partnership. The capability of MV Commercial’s Airdrie facility to comprehensively customise vehicles on-site, including livery and additional features like lights and airhorns, substantially enhances efficiency and readiness for service.
With origins tracing back over half a century, Old Haulage has transitioned from a coal merchant to a nationwide provider of general haulage and crane hire services. Operating from a 5,000-square-foot warehouse and an adjoining yard, the company delivers various specialised services including the installation of fuel station signage, demonstrating its versatile operational capacity.
The strategic collaboration between Old Haulage and MV Commercial exemplifies adaptive logistics in the UK haulage sector.
