The team from Not Just Travel is set to embark on a challenging expedition along the Inca Trail in Peru, a journey designed to both test their limits and raise substantial funds for The Pink Ribbon Foundation. The charity, which provides support to individuals affected by breast cancer, hopes to benefit from the group’s ambitious target of £10,000. Over 20 participants from the organisation will traverse high-altitude terrains, tackling up to nine-hour treks each day in pursuit of their goal. Dubbed ‘The Breast Trek Ever’, this 25-mile challenge is scheduled between September 29 and October 9, coordinated in partnership with G Adventures.
The decision to undertake this strenuous hike holds particular significance, as it honours Rachael Coyne, a consultant from Not Just Travel who has twice overcome breast cancer. Despite her diagnosis, Coyne has maintained her role in the travel business alongside her husband, embodying resilience and determination. Such a personal connection to the cause has undoubtedly added a motivating layer to the team’s efforts.
The trek will see participants scale heights of 4,200 metres and wake before dawn on the third day to complete the final leg towards the Sun Gate at Machu Picchu. Laura Simpson, who leads experience and operations at Not Just Travel, will undertake the hike with her daughter, Ambar. The experience is profoundly personal for Simpson, who remarks that completing the Inca Trail has long been a personal dream and is made even more poignant by the opportunity to do so in memory of her mother and friends.
In preparation, the team has been training rigorously, including a special session with Daley Thompson CBE, a double Olympic champion known for his expertise in strength and endurance. Tom Buck, a global purpose specialist at G Adventures, praised the team’s dedication and spirit, noting the transformative potential of both the trek and their charitable mission. Lisa Allen, representing The Pink Ribbon Foundation, expressed gratitude and excitement for the partnership, recognising the inspiring impact such initiatives can have on raising awareness and support for those living with breast cancer.
This collaborative effort signifies a profound commitment to supporting those impacted by breast cancer while undertaking a physically demanding and emotionally meaningful adventure.
