The Advertising Unlocked 2024 initiative is a significant event in the advertising industry, aiming to introduce nearly 2,000 students to the diverse world of advertising. This programme, involving agencies and schools across England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales, serves as a gateway for young individuals to explore potential career paths. Notably, a third of the participating agencies are situated outside of London, broadening the reach and impact of the event.
Since its inception in 2017, Advertising Unlocked has successfully engaged over 12,000 students, making it the largest career day in the industry. The programme is designed to offer practical experiences, from creative workshops to interactive discussions, allowing students to gain firsthand insight into the advertising profession. This year, agencies are providing opportunities to work on Christmas campaign briefs, participate in interactive quizzes, and attend sessions on branding.
Key activities during the event include speed networking with advertising professionals, offering a rare chance for students to understand various roles within the industry. Agencies are also conducting masterclasses in copywriting, content creation, and animation, highlighting the creative aspects of advertising careers. Furthermore, students receive valuable career guidance, including CV-building workshops and discussions on utilising AI in advertising.
Josh Krichefski, President & CEO of IPA, expressed the unique value of Advertising Unlocked, noting its role in connecting the industry with future talent. He stated, “Advertising Unlocked is a really special initiative because of how it brings adland together to open doors for the next generation.” His comments underscore the programme’s potential to inspire students and provide agencies with insights into their future workforce.
Participating agencies this year include notable names such as dentsu and Wavemaker Manchester, among others. Will Nevill, Account Director at The Gate, emphasised the importance of such initiatives, recalling his own experience in 2017 as a formative introduction to the advertising world. The programme not only educates but also inspires students, equipping them with essential knowledge to pursue a career in advertising.
Advertising Unlocked continues to play a pivotal role in preparing students for careers in advertising.
