- They successfully rowed 100 miles to raise funds for the water charity Just A Drop.
- The challenge mirrors the length of Lake Nicaragua and took place on machines in the Surrey office.
- This initiative is part of their continuous Travel For Good project, having previously cycled for the same cause.
- The fundraiser supports building new school toilets in Nicaragua, addressing the lack of clean water.
Employees at Newmarket Holidays have recently undertaken an ambitious virtual rowing challenge, successfully covering a distance of 100 miles equivalent to the length of Lake Nicaragua. This endeavour took place in their head office located in Wallington, Surrey, and marks a continuation of their dedicated charitable initiative known as the Travel For Good project.
Previously, in another display of commitment, Newmarket staff engaged in a biking challenge where they cycled the full length of Nicaragua, raising over £5,000 for the same cause. Both events were designed to generate funds for Just A Drop, a charity focused on providing essential water resources. The current rowing mission aimed to gather additional funds for constructing much-needed school toilet facilities, a critical need for improving conditions in Nicaraguan educational settings.
In a spirit of friendly competition, the staff divided into two teams. The chief executive, Niel Alobaidi, paired up with chief people and customer officer Ian Dines, each team undertaking 50 miles. Alobaidi highlighted the severe impact the lack of clean water has on local communities, noting its contribution to early school dropouts and difficulties in attracting qualified teachers. He emphasised that this project is entirely funded by the efforts of staff and their respective teams.
This charitable endeavour not only showcases the employees’ commitment to global issues but also strengthens internal collaboration, enhancing team spirit. Alobaidi also mentioned that Newmarket Holidays is already contemplating future projects with Just A Drop once the current initiative concludes.
The Newmarket Holidays team’s efforts underscore a profound commitment to addressing water scarcity issues in Nicaragua through innovative fundraising methods.
