- Wykamol was established in 1934, operating from its headquarters and a manufacturing site, both located in Burnley.
- Mapei’s Chief Executive, Veronica Squinzi, emphasized the strategic importance of this acquisition for enhancing local production and market presence.
- The merger is more than an expansion; it leverages Wykamol’s expertise and distribution network to boost Mapei’s service delivery across the UK.
The acquisition of the UK-based company, Wykamol, by the Italian manufacturer Mapei is a decisive move aimed at boosting Mapei’s waterproofing product range within the United Kingdom. Wykamol, known for its expertise in dampproofing and property renovation, operates from its main office, which houses powder production, as well as a manufacturing site dedicated to high-density polyethylene (HDPE) products.
Founded in 1934, Wykamol has built its reputation on quality and innovation. The strategic acquisition aligns with Mapei’s commitment to expanding its product offerings. “Mapei has a long history in the UK, dating back to 1989,” noted Chief Executive Veronica Squinzi, highlighting the acquisition as a step in enhancing local production capacity.
Mapei already has a notable presence in the UK market, employing 370 people and maintaining facilities that include manufacturing plants and warehouses in Halesowen and Speke. This move follows the recent opening of a Speke plant for concrete admixture production, which underscores Mapei’s strategy of responsible growth in the region.
Philip Breakspear, Managing Director of Mapei UK, stated, “This acquisition aligns with our strategic vision… By combining the strengths and expertise of both companies, we are poised to deliver even greater value to our customers and drive innovation in the construction industry.” This reflects a forward-thinking approach where enhancing customer value and leading industry innovation are core objectives.
The acquisition not only boosts Mapei’s product portfolio but also strategically utilises Wykamol’s existing distribution networks and technical expertise to improve service delivery. Mapei, with its expansive global footprint, comprising 12,500 employees across 57 countries and a substantial turnover last year, aims to reinforce its market position in the UK through this integration.
This acquisition illustrates Mapei’s strategic vision to fortify its market presence by leveraging Wykamol’s expertise and networks.
