Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL), a prominent figure in the cruise industry, has announced its plan to set sail from Philadelphia, marking a significant milestone in maritime travel. This initiative will not only boost the city’s tourism but also expand the horizons for cruise enthusiasts along the eastern seaboard. To facilitate this new venture, Philadelphia plans to develop a state-of-the-art facility by 2026, transforming the city into a pivotal hub for cruising.
The NCL’s Norwegian Jewel, known for its luxurious offerings and sophisticated itineraries, will be at the forefront of this endeavour. Starting on 16 April 2026, this vessel will embark on various seven-to-nine-day journeys to Bermuda from the Port of Philadelphia. These voyages will feature overnight stops at the Royal Naval Dockyard, allowing passengers to explore Bermuda’s rich cultural tapestry and breathtaking vistas.
Further expanding its repertoire, NCL will offer 10- and 11-day itineraries that alternate between Philadelphia and Québec City. These meticulously curated routes will cover the picturesque landscapes and historical treasures of Canada and New England, providing travellers with an unparalleled experience that combines adventure with cultural immersion.
The collaboration between NCL and PhilaPort has been met with enthusiasm from both parties. David J. Herrera, president of NCL, expressed pride in partnering with PhilaPort to introduce cruising to the area, enhancing its accessibility to the U.S. Mid-Atlantic region. His sentiments were echoed by Jeff Theobald, executive director and CEO of PhilaPort, who lauded the venture as a step towards furthering the port’s growth and connecting cruisers with Philadelphia’s wealth of historical and cultural landmarks.
Norwegian Cruise Line’s strategic move to establish operations in Philadelphia heralds a new era in cruising for the region.
