My Digital has announced significant leadership changes following a recent Management Buy Out (MBO). Dan Moss has been appointed as the new CEO, succeeding founder John Whelan. Ged Gould, a private equity expert, takes over as Chair. These changes follow Maven Capital’s exit after their investment. The company aims for ambitious growth under the new leadership.
My Digital, a provider of cloud-based payroll and accounting software, has undergone notable leadership changes in the wake of a Management Buy Out (MBO) concluded in May this year. The company, headquartered in Stockport, has appointed Dan Moss as Chief Executive Officer (CEO), succeeding the founder, John Whelan. Moss, who has risen through the company’s ranks since 2016, expressed his satisfaction in seeing the management team poised to advance the company into its scale-up phase and fulfil its ambitious vision.
The appointment of Ged Gould as Chair further strengthens the leadership team. Gould, a co-founder of Dealspan, brings a wealth of experience in private equity, which will be invaluable to My Digital’s strategic direction and growth objectives. His expertise is expected to guide the company through its next phase of expansion, especially following the departure of Maven Capital, which initially invested £1.2 million to foster the company’s development.
In a statement, Moss highlighted the company’s strong team dynamics, talent, and enthusiasm, particularly post-MBO. He emphasised the significance of having a capable team during this pivotal transition period. With 62 employees, 42 of whom are based at its wholly-owned Indian subsidiary, My Digital reported a turnover of £2.8 million in its latest accounts.
Former CEO, John Whelan, although stepping down from his operational role, will continue to serve on My Digital’s board. Moss acknowledged Whelan’s influential role and mentoring during his tenure, which began as a software designer and developer and progressed to Chief Operating Officer. Whelan has been commended for nurturing the team and passing on the reins after ensuring robust leadership succession.
The departure of Maven Capital marks the end of a significant chapter for My Digital. Maven’s initial investment of £1.2 million was instrumental in supporting the company’s early growth stages. Now, under the leadership of Moss and Gould, My Digital is expected to pursue an ambitious pathway for scaling operations and innovating product offerings.
The leadership transition at My Digital sets the stage for ambitious growth and strategic advancement under new guidance.
