In an outstanding achievement, David Coulter, a travel agent working with Blue Bay Travel, surpassed £1 million in sales during the recent peak season. His remarkable efforts were acknowledged at the My Booking Rewards Peaks Performance Awards, held at the vibrant Impossible Manchester venue. This accolade was a part of a celebratory event that drew over 100 agents, all gathered to recognise record-breaking performances.
Coulter’s business acumen shone through as he meticulously logged more than 200 bookings for suppliers affiliated with My Booking Rewards, contributing to over 2,100 room nights sold. Reflecting on his achievement, Coulter expressed his surprise upon being named top performer, admitting, “I did not think I would be the top performer – I could not believe it when my name was announced, I was really surprised.”
Aside from the bookings related to My Booking Rewards, Coulter also excelled in selling holidays for other suppliers, surpassing the £1 million mark. This success is testament to his dedication as a self-employed Personal Travel Consultant, having joined Blue Bay Travel’s homeworking division in 2021. Prior to this role, he was already making strides in the industry with Hays Travel and a Worldchoice agency in Portrush.
Coulter’s sales strategy is heavily focused on long-haul beach holidays, which constitute approximately 90% of his bookings. He underscores the importance of providing superior service, stating, “It is about providing good service; I try to help them as much as possible.” His efforts have cultivated a return client base, primarily located in England, despite his residence in Northern Ireland.
Demonstrating his proficiency in handling large-scale bookings, Coulter recounted a day in which he secured notable deals such as a £30,000 booking to Mauritius and a £38,000 transaction to Beaches Turks and Caicos. This was followed by another substantial booking to Excellence Riviera in Cancun, further solidifying his reputation for handling high-value trips.
As part of his ongoing professional development and to enhance his ability to recommend destinations, Coulter is preparing to experience the Maldives first-hand through an upcoming fam trip with Sun Siyam. He emphasises the importance of personal experience in effectively recommending travel destinations, having stated, “I have never been to the Maldives but I sell lots; and once you’ve been to a place, it really helps you to recommend it.”
