Organised by MSC Cruises, the seven-a-side football tournament aims to bring together the ‘kindest of hearts’ within the travel industry. As participants prepare to battle for the coveted title of ‘best football team in the travel industry’, the event anticipates both excitement and fundraising success. Previously, the 2019 tournament successfully raised over £25,000, setting an inspiring benchmark for this year’s participants.
Each participating team is required to have a squad of 10 players, ensuring diversity with the inclusion of at least two female athletes. The registration fee stands at £3,000 per team, and teams can purchase additional spectator tickets priced at £23 each, further contributing to the cause. These contributions are vital, as all proceeds are dedicated to supporting the mission of Reuben’s Retreat.
Antonio Paradiso, vice-president of international sales for the MSC Group’s cruise division and managing director for the UK and Ireland, expressed his enthusiasm for the tournament, highlighting it as both a celebration and support for the incredible work done by Reuben’s Retreat. Nicola Graham, founder of Reuben’s Retreat, echoed these sentiments, expressing her delight at the event’s return and acknowledging MSC Cruises’ continuous support.
Reuben’s Retreat, based in Derbyshire, provides a sanctuary for families with children facing life-limiting illnesses, offering services such as counselling, support groups, therapy days, and bereavement breaks. The funds raised through the MSC Cup have a significant impact, enabling the charity to continue providing these much-needed services.
