Morrisons has introduced a pilot programme offering customers exclusive farm tours.
- The initiative aims to provide insight into sustainable farming practices.
- Customers will tour farms, such as the Barrock End in the North Pennines.
- This programme aligns with Morrisons’ commitment to zero-emission British farming by 2030.
- Morrisons is also celebrating British Food Fortnight in their stores.
Morrisons is pioneering a new initiative called the ‘British farm bus tour’, designed to give customers a unique, behind-the-scenes look at how their food is produced. Passengers will have the opportunity to observe day-to-day farm operations and learn about sustainable agricultural methods. The first tour recently took place at Barrock End, a 420-acre mixed farm located in the North Pennines.
Sophie Throup, the technical and sustainability director at Morrisons, commented on the importance of these tours by stating, “The Morrisons Farm Bus Tours will set off from stores to take the mystery out of where and how the grocer retailer’s food is produced.” She emphasised the pride the company takes in their farmers and the quality of their products, which include fresh produce, dairy, and meat.
In addition to launching the farm tours, Morrisons has announced that it is the exclusive retail partner for British Food Fortnight. To celebrate this, stores are showcasing seasonal British produce, meat, and fish through special marketing displays. This initiative not only highlights Morrisons’ dedication to local suppliers but also enhances the shopping experience by connecting consumers with the origins of their food.
This latest endeavour is part of Morrisons’ broader goal to be entirely supplied by ‘zero emission’ British farms by the year 2030. The supermarket chain has already taken significant steps towards this objective by partnering with Harper Adams University’s School of Sustainable Food and Farming to create a Sustainable Farm Network. This network is intended to assist nearly 2,500 suppliers and farmers in achieving sustainable and net-zero farming practices.
Morrisons’ farm tours underscore its commitment to sustainability and transparency in food production.
