Since entering this industry in 1978, Micron Technology has successfully navigated the harsh boom-bust cycles of the DRAM market through four decades of price wars, technological upheaval, and consolidation that eliminated numerous rivals. It made it through. And now that all of the world’s major tech companies are investing heavily in AI infrastructure, Micron is sitting on the exact product that everyone is suddenly craving.
A portion of the story is revealed by the share price. Micron’s stock, which is currently trading at about $421, has completed one of the most spectacular recoveries in semiconductor history, rising from a 52-week low of $65.64 to a high of $471.34 in March 2026. High Bandwidth Memory, or HBM, is the product at the heart of this. It’s not a fancy term for the crucial bottleneck in AI computing. Every major cloud company’s AI training infrastructure is powered by Nvidia’s most sophisticated GPUs, which require HBM stacked directly onto the accelerator package to feed the chips data quickly enough to maintain full capacity. Although it’s still unclear how significant the TurboQuant development is at scale, the market’s quick and acute response indicates that investors are keeping a close eye on this variable. A catastrophe is not necessary for Micron’s bear case. All that is needed is for the AI memory shortage to resolve more quickly than anticipated.
This week, Micron also made a calculated investment in SiMa.ai, a San Jose-based Physical AI firm that specializes in edge computing hardware for autonomous cars, robotics, and industrial automation. The agreement incorporates Micron’s LPDDR5X memory into the processor platform of SiMa.ai. Although it’s a smaller financial move, it shows where Micron is aiming the business—not just at data center AI, which is already crowded with investors and rivals, but also at the next tier of intelligent systems, where edge memory architecture becomes a constraint. It’s unclear if that wager will yield significant profits in the near future. However, the directionality makes sense.
It’s difficult to ignore the fact that Micron is still trading 10% below its 52-week high set just three weeks ago in March, even with a P/E ratio of about 19, which is modest by today’s semiconductor standards. The stock is well-positioned for AI-driven growth, according to Bank of America. The consensus among analysts is bullish. The narrative about memory loss has not been disproved. However, the share price is in a range that suggests at least some lingering uncertainty regarding geopolitical risk, the longevity of AI capital expenditures, or the growing competitive pressures in HBM.
