Metcalfe and Steve Speller founded the Malvern-based Speller Metcalfe in 1995. They brought their considerable experience as quantity surveyors into the business, demonstrating a keen commitment to enhancing industry standards. Their collaboration began humbly in a garage, with Metcalfe initially supporting the fledgling enterprise through his income before transitioning to a full-time role.
The company’s impressive growth is evidenced by its nearly £133 million turnover last year. A significant shift occurred in 2022 when Steve Speller retired, handing over the reins to his son James, who assumed the position of managing director, with his brother Adrian taking on the role of technical director.
In his statement, James Speller acknowledged Metcalfe’s dual role as both a founder and a mentor to many within the company, including James himself. He praised Metcalfe’s contribution in shaping the company’s forward-thinking and people-centric ethos, ensuring the firm is well-placed for future success.
Adrian Speller confirmed the commitment to the founding vision of Speller Metcalfe, highlighting the continued focus on excellence in construction and internal growth and development. This dedication reflects the enduring influence of Metcalfe and Speller’s original partnership values.
