McLaren Construction has embarked on a significant venture at the World Freight Terminal of Manchester Airport, initiating work on a £12.8 million industrial project. This development, named Unit B4, is a 92,000 square foot facility that will encompass essential logistics and office spaces. Positioned west of the airport, the project is part of a continued investment into the area, illustrating a commitment to economic and infrastructural expansion.
The construction of Unit B4 is undertaken by McLaren on behalf of Columbia Threadneedle Investments, marking another addition to the airport’s capacity to handle freight and logistics efficiently. Previously, a 100,000 square foot warehouse was divided into three commercial units, demonstrating McLaren’s capability in delivering substantial projects tailored to client specifications.
A key challenge in the construction process is operating within the stringent security parameters dictated by the airport environment. This aspect has been skilfully navigated by McLaren, who have partnered with Manchester Airport Group (MAG) Utilities and other relevant stakeholders to ensure seamless progression of the project. The importance of maintaining high security standards while advancing construction timelines is a testament to the project’s complexity.
Gary Cramp, the managing director of McLaren Construction (Midlands and North), emphasised the critical nature of the B4 project, stating, “The B4 project is an essential part of the airport’s ongoing development, providing much-needed industrial and logistics space.” His confidence in the project reflects McLaren’s expertise in handling intricate construction environments while supporting the airport’s broader operational goals.
This project underscores McLaren’s pivotal role in enhancing Manchester Airport’s infrastructure for future growth.
