In a show of enduring support, Maritime Transport has once again demonstrated its commitment to the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal, celebrating ten years of participation. The company has involved employees from its 41 sites to attach poppies to the front of over 1,000 vehicles. This effort is designed to remind drivers of the sacrifices made by the Armed Forces community.
John Williams, Maritime’s group executive chairman, stated the company’s pride in its lengthy partnership with the Royal British Legion, praising the organisation’s long-standing support for the Armed Forces since the Poppy Appeal’s inception in 1921. He highlighted the honour Maritime finds in contributing to the Legion’s work and aiding service leavers.
Beginning in 2015, Maritime started fitting poppies on its vehicles and simultaneously inaugurated its Professional Driver Scheme (PDS). This programme provides hands-on training and mentorship to new drivers, particularly attracting service leavers seeking civilian roles. Many veterans have successfully transitioned through this scheme since its introduction.
Maritime’s commitment to the Armed Forces is further underscored by signing the Armed Forces Covenant in 2016, positioning itself as a military-friendly employer. Their efforts were recognised with the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme Silver Award by the Ministry of Defence in both 2016 and 2021.
Mandi Cox-Osborne, the Poppy Appeal manager for Suffolk, expressed gratitude for Maritime’s consistent support, acknowledging its crucial role in funding essential services for the Armed Forces. She commended the company for expanding the visibility of the Poppy Appeal, underlining the partnership’s positive impact on countless lives.
Maritime Transport’s decade-long tribute stands as a meaningful symbol of respect and support for the Armed Forces.
