Eco Buildings Group, a firm listed in the UK, has secured a monumental order worth £190 million to deliver 10,000 homes to the Dominican Republic. This order signifies a major breakthrough in the prefabricated housing market, particularly because it stems from a productive visit by the Dominican Republic’s housing minister, Carlos Bonilla Sanchez, to the company’s manufacturing plant located in Albania.
Highlighting its products as up to 50% cheaper, two-thirds lighter, and quintuple faster to assemble than conventional houses, Eco Buildings is poised to tackle the acute housing demands in the Dominican Republic. The company’s utilisation of glass fibre-reinforced gypsum (GFRG) panels, already certified in Chile and various Latin American regions, further emphasises its capability to offer innovative housing solutions.
A letter of intent has been formalised with Gramma Constructora SRL, a significant private construction entity in the Dominican Republic, outlining the purchase of these homes over the next five years, contingent on regulatory consents. In preparation, a sample of these panels is being dispatched to the Dominican Republic for rigorous evaluation and validation.
The deal initially includes a commitment from Gramma Constructora SRL to acquire 2,000 units per annum once requisite governmental certifications are acquired. Discussions to establish a local manufacturing site in the Dominican Republic underscore the strategic importance of this enterprise.
Chief Executive Sanjay Bowry expressed satisfaction with the positive outcomes from the Dominican Republic delegation’s factory visit, emphasising Eco Buildings’ role in addressing global housing shortages with its state-of-the-art technology.
