Stephen Joseph, the incoming Group CEO, has confirmed the promotions of several key figures: Phil Hall will take on the newly created role of Group Chief Commercial Officer while maintaining his responsibilities as UK CEO. Billy Byam-Cook will become the Group Chief Financial Officer, tasked with overseeing commercial contracts and managing cross-border agency relationships alongside Phil Hall.
The restructuring includes the promotion of Nick Shaw to UK Chief Commercial Officer, and Richard Malton assuming the role of Group Chief Marketing and Strategy Officer. In addition, Helen Haines steps into the position of Director of Strategic Marketing. The new roles are effective from January 1, 2025. Joseph has remarked on the calibre of the new team, citing their collaborative strength and depth of expertise as pivotal in the company’s strategy to establish itself as the preferred digital out-of-home (DOOH) advertising partner for various stakeholders.
The leadership overhaul comes amid a period of considerable investment in Ocean’s brand experience and innovative capacity. Business unit CEOs Phil Hall, Anders Axelsson, Xavier Tilman, and Christopher Samsinger will oversee operations in seven countries. Furthermore, substantial investments have been made in the company’s Ocean Labs division, led by Catherine Morgan, and the Ocean Studios, spearheaded by David Tait. These developments aim to enhance Ocean’s creative output and strategic consultancy services.
Stephen Joseph has emphasised the importance of aligning the company’s practices across its core disciplines, such as sales, marketing, asset development, and technological innovation. The integrated approach seeks to foster growth through both organic means and mergers and acquisitions, highlighting the company’s ambitious plans for the future. As part of the updated strategy, Steve George has been appointed as the Group Chief Development Officer to complete the leadership team.
These strategic changes mark Ocean Outdoor’s commitment to its growth vision, ensuring a comprehensive approach to leadership and innovation.
