LAVA Advisory Partners has successfully managed the sale of Amelio Solar Energy, a Lincolnshire-based solar power company, to renewable energy provider Good Energy, marking a significant step in expanding access to sustainable energy across the UK.
The deal, facilitated by LAVA’s team, reflects the firm’s strong commitment to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles, alongside its hands-on approach to deal preparation and negotiation.
Amelio Solar Energy, founded in 2010 by Richard Jones, a Chartered Surveyor with over 35 years of experience, has played a key role in promoting clean energy. To date, the company has installed over 20MWp of Solar PV, supporting homeowners, businesses, and public sector organisations in their journey towards energy efficiency.
Richard Jones, Managing Director and majority shareholder of Amelio, was referred to LAVA by a previous partner. He was particularly drawn to LAVA’s personalised approach, which focused on understanding his objectives and providing bespoke solutions to meet his needs.
“Not only was I thoroughly impressed with the intelligence, professionalism, and dedication of the entire team, but their unique approach to the sale process meant they were able to deliver the right buyer and the right deal in a timeline I wouldn’t have believed was possible,” said Jones.
After 14 years at the helm of Amelio, Jones had grown the company into a robust and scalable business, ready for future growth. He sought to ensure a smooth transition without disrupting day-to-day operations and was keen to avoid a prolonged sales process. LAVA’s expertise in ESG-aligned transactions, combined with their ability to meet both financial and timing requirements, made them the perfect fit to deliver on his vision.
LAVA employed a streamlined market testing strategy to identify potential buyers quickly, eventually identifying Good Energy as the ideal partner. Good Energy’s cultural alignment with Amelio, combined with their desire to expand their commercial solar installation portfolio, made them a natural fit. Their interest in Lincolnshire complemented Amelio’s geographic footprint, positioning the combined entity for future growth.
“We’re really pleased to have delivered such a great result for Richard and the Amelio team,” said Tom Rowe-Jones, Director at LAVA. “As a certified B Corp, sustainable energy is something we’re very much invested in, and being able to use our skills to design a tailored process that exceeds our clients’ expectations is incredibly rewarding. We’re really looking forward to seeing Amelio continue to flourish in its new home.”
Following the sale, Jones will oversee a post-transaction integration period to ensure a smooth transition for the company under Good Energy’s ownership. Afterwards, he plans to step back from the business to spend more time with his family.
The acquisition of Amelio Solar Energy by Good Energy not only strengthens Good Energy’s position in the UK renewable market but also underscores the increasing importance of solar energy in the UK’s energy transition. With Amelio’s expertise and Good Energy’s resources, the deal is expected to enhance sustainable energy offerings for both residential and commercial sectors across the country.
