In a significant move to accentuate the potential within the haulage industry, National Lorry Week 2024 was launched by RHA chair Moreton Cullimore at Stroud Brewery. This event did more than just mark a date; it symbolised the culmination of a three-week long roadshow. Travelling across the UK, the National Lorry Week 2024 truck visited various members, industry partners, and educational institutes to underline the indispensable role of the logistics sector in ensuring smooth supply chains throughout the nation.
As part of the event, an advanced driving simulator was set up to give aspiring drivers an authentic taste of what it’s like to be behind the wheel of a Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV). The initiative is an innovative approach aimed at attracting more individuals into considering careers within the haulage industry, offering them first-hand experience without the initial pressures of real-world driving.
Speakers at the event included policy lead Sally Gilson, who passionately discussed the vital nature of careers in logistics, describing them as a backbone to the country’s economy. She emphasised that investing in skills and training can provide countless benefits not only for individuals but for the industry as a whole. Jayson Churn, the CWD logistics director and chair of the RHA Next Gen Group, further elaborated on the opportunities that the sector holds, especially for the younger generation, advocating for industry and government support.
This year’s National Lorry Week marks its tenth anniversary, celebrating a decade since its inception in 2014. Over the years, it has consistently underscored the importance of skills, careers, and opportunities in the industry, fortifying the crucial role haulage plays in propelling economic growth.
National Lorry Week continues to be a cornerstone event, fostering awareness and growth within the haulage industry.
