In a significant move to bolster the capabilities of travel agents, Latin Routes recently concluded its second Agent Academy, held over five nights in the vibrant backdrop of Peru. This educational journey not only provided agents with an immersive travel experience but also included strategic training sessions that deepened their understanding of the diverse offerings across Latin America.
The itinerary was strategically planned to encompass visits to historic and culturally rich sites such as Cusco, Sacred Valley, and the iconic Machu Picchu. These excursions were designed to provide agents with firsthand experience of the destinations, enhancing their ability to convey the allure of these regions to potential clients.
A core component of the academy was the extensive networking opportunities. Over 20 suppliers, including esteemed cruise brands like Silversea and Quark Expeditions, and distinguished hotel chains such as Explora, Inkaterra, and Iberostar, were present. These interactions aimed to equip agents with comprehensive knowledge and partnerships necessary to confidently market Latin American tours.
The response to the programme was overwhelmingly positive, encapsulated by the fact that more than 200 agents vied for a place in the academy. Participants were required to articulate their motivations for attending, ensuring that those selected were genuinely committed to expanding their professional horizons.
Gaynor Atherton, head of trade sales at Latin Routes, expressed her gratitude towards the staff, sponsors, agents, and suppliers, acknowledging their vital roles in the event’s success. Her sentiments were echoed by Sally Ward from Baldwins Travel, who reflected on the invaluable immersive experience that bolstered her confidence in selling Latin America. Furthermore, Donatella Valzasina from Silversea highlighted the evolution of the academy into a ‘must attend’ event for agents keen on specialising in this diverse and rewarding market.
The success of the Agent Academy in Peru underscores the growing interest and need for specialised training in the travel industry.
