Knowles Logistics takes a significant step towards sustainability with the addition of three Volvo FM Electric trucks to their fleet for the Princes contract.
- The new electric trucks replace diesel models, aiming to reduce carbon emissions significantly through 100% clean energy use.
- The fleet operates efficiently with a 150kW fast charger, allowing for continuous 24/7 operation with minimal downtime.
- These electric vehicles will cover approximately 80,000 km annually, servicing routes between key manufacturing sites and warehouses.
- The initiative aligns with Knowles Logistics’ broader sustainability strategy, underscoring its commitment to reducing carbon footprints.
Knowles Logistics has strategically integrated three Volvo FM Electric 4×2 tractor units into their operations, specifically for the Princes contract. This environmental initiative replaces traditional diesel trucks, promising substantial reductions in carbon emissions. Operating at 42-tonnes with tri-axle curtainsiders, these vehicles exemplify the company’s commitment to sustainability through the use of 100% clean energy, including 15% sourced from on-site solar panels.
The logistical efficiency is further enhanced by a 150kW fast charging system that allows the electric trucks to recharge quickly during drivers’ rest breaks. This capability ensures the fleet remains operational round the clock, supporting double shifts and maximising productivity without compromising environmental goals.
Tasked with traversing between Princes’ manufacturing facilities in Long Sutton and Wisbech and Knowles’ warehousing units, each of these electric vehicles is anticipated to travel approximately 80,000 km annually. This operation is essential to Knowles Logistics’ strategy to maintain high service levels while also pursuing aggressive carbon reduction targets.
Alex Knowles, Managing Director at Knowles Logistics, expressed the importance of this investment in the company’s sustainability journey, highlighting their success in reducing logistical carbon footprints. He stated, “As one of the fastest growing transport providers in the country, this is a great milestone on our sustainability journey.”
The electric trucks serve as direct replacements for diesel vehicles, operating efficiently in a weight-critical application by carrying payloads comparable to traditional trucks. This efficient load management ensures that these electric vehicles meet operational demands without sacrificing environmental commitments.
Knowles Logistics’ integration of electric trucks reinforces their dedication to sustainable practices, marking a pivotal advancement in their operational strategy.
