The construction sector marks a notable advancement as the Joint Contracts Tribunal (JCT) unveils the 2024 edition of the JCT Minor Works Building Contract family. Recognised for its standardised contract forms since 1931, the JCT makes a comeback with fresh editions, the first since its 2016 release, thus energising the contractual landscape after an eight-year hiatus.
This update introduces several key documents tailored to diverse construction contract requirements. Among these, the Minor Works Building Contract 2024 (MW 2024) stands out, alongside the Minor Works Building Contract with contractor’s design 2024 (MWD 2024). Moreover, the suite includes the Minor Works Sub-Contract with sub-contractor’s design 2024 (MWSub/D 2024), ensuring comprehensive coverage across various contracting needs.
Two notable documents, the Minor Works Building Contract 2024 Tracked Change Document and its contractor’s design counterpart, have been made available in hardcopy. These documents empower stakeholders to track contractual amendments closely, ensuring transparency and clarity in contractual obligations and modifications.
Furthermore, the release includes the Short Form of Sub-Contract 2024 (ShortSub 2024) and the Sub-subcontract 2024 (SubSub 2024), catering to the need for concise and clear agreements in simpler subcontracting arrangements.
Enhancing the contract administration process, the JCT has also introduced updates to two Model Administration Forms. These, namely the MW and MWD 2024 Admin – Contract Administration Model Forms, are offered in digital formats, facilitating efficient management of contractual responsibilities.
As these documents become available through the JCT’s online store, industry professionals can readily access them, enhancing contractual operations across the sector. The stakeholders comprising the JCT include eminent bodies such as the British Property Federation, Build UK Group Limited, and the Royal Institute of British Architects, reflecting a comprehensive industry representation.
The 2024 release of the JCT Minor Works family marks a pivotal moment in construction contract standardisation, promising streamlined processes across varied projects.
