JCB has announced its plans to relocate its logistics operations from the current 383,000 square foot facility in Tunstall to a much larger location at the East Midlands Gateway Logistics Park by early 2025. This strategic move addresses the capacity limitations at the existing hub, which has been at full capacity for the past five years, accommodating only 50% of JCB’s inbound freight prior to distribution. The new site, 49 miles from Tunstall, offers the required expansion to consolidate multiple storage locations under one roof, thus enhancing operational efficiency for the construction equipment manufacturer.
Opened in 2014, JCB’s World Logistics in Tunstall was initially managed by DHL and since 2022 has been operated by Maersk Logistics with support from Unipart Logistics. Despite its initial adequacy, the site’s full capacity situation now necessitates its replacement. According to JCB, more than 200 employees will be affected by this transition; the company has assured that all affected personnel will be given opportunities for redeployment, either at the new facility or other JCB locations. The decision was made in collaboration with logistics partners and the GMB union to ensure a smooth transition for the workforce.
