Itsu has collaborated with Tesco to introduce its premium sushi range into the supermarket’s £5 meal deal, enhancing the lunchtime options available to consumers. This addition, effective from 21 October, allows shoppers to savour Itsu’s dragon roll sushi range, which includes Teriyaki Salmon, Vegetable Crunch, Katsu Chicken, and California varieties. The Grocer reports the enticing price point of £4.75 per range within the meal deal bundle.
Tesco’s strategic move to include sushi in its meal deal comes as a response to changing consumer preferences. The supermarket revealed that sushi has now superseded smoked salmon sandwiches as the UK’s fastest-growing lunchtime main. This shift underscores the rising popularity of Asian-inspired cuisine among British consumers, presenting an opportunity for brands like Itsu to capture market share.
The sushi packs are designed to enhance the consumer’s dining experience. Each pack is accompanied by a sachet of mayo, sweet soy sauce, and crunchy tempura pieces. Additionally, to address common concerns about messiness when consuming sushi, the packaging is innovatively crafted with a border that prevents sauce spillage, ensuring a clean and enjoyable meal.
In line with expanding product offerings, Itsu has also launched an array of frozen items, thus broadening its reach within the convenience food sector. This expansion includes five new products: two varieties of frozen dumplings – Chicken Soup and Vegetable Steamed – retailing at £3 for six 28g pieces. Meanwhile, the veggie snack range, each priced at £3.25, comprises Vegetable Tempura Fries, Glazed Miso Aubergine, and Pumpkin Crispy Fritters. These items are designed to be versatile, serving as either a main dish or a complement to Itsu’s existing frozen gyoza range.
These frozen dumplings are already available in selected major retailers like Waitrose, Morrisons, and Asda. Their availability in Tesco is slated from 4 November, further cementing Itsu’s footprint in the UK frozen food market. The introduction of these new products not only showcases Itsu’s commitment to innovation but also its strategic approach to meeting the evolving demands of contemporary consumers.
Itsu’s integration into Tesco’s meal deal and its expansion with new frozen products marks a significant step in catering to modern consumer preferences.
