Intrepid Travel has announced a strategic partnership with the Whale and Dolphin Conservation (WDC), marking a significant step in their commitment to marine conservation efforts. This UK-based charity has been chosen as the first partner for Intrepid’s non-profit arm, The Intrepid Foundation. The foundation has pledged an initial donation of £5,000, and further aims to match the contributions made by customers during this partnership.
Part of the initiative’s highlight is the involvement of BBC presenter Julia Bradbury, a patron of WDC, who is set to participate in the upcoming Antarctic exploration cruise aboard the Ocean Endeavour. Scheduled for departure on the 25th of February, 2025, this journey to the Antarctic Circle serves as a beacon to promote awareness and education about marine life conservation. Passengers will have the unique opportunity to attend a talk by Bradbury, where she will delve into her passion for nature and the integral connection between the outdoors and wellbeing.
Hazel McGuire, the UK and Ireland General Manager at Intrepid, emphasises the collaboration, stating, ‘The Intrepid Foundation has a long history of supporting wildlife conservation, and our values closely align with those of WDC.’ Her remarks highlight the shared commitment towards addressing the various threats, notably hunting and marine pollution, which these majestic creatures face. The focus is to foster public awareness and encourage action to mitigate these threats.
Further commentary from Chris Butler-Stroud, the chief executive of WDC, underscores the importance of this partnership. He expressed, “We are delighted to partner with Intrepid Travel and the Intrepid Foundation on two groundbreaking pieces of work that will help WDC create a world where every whale and dolphin is safe and free.” Such sentiments reflect the shared vision of both organisations to enhance the safety and freedom of whales and dolphins across the globe.
This partnership is poised to make a meaningful impact in marine conservation, highlighting the significance of collaborative efforts.
