Transport and distribution firm HMT Group has strategically enhanced its operational capacity by integrating seven new Volvo FH 460 Globetrotter XL trucks into its fleet. This decision reflects the company’s enduring commitment to the Volvo brand, perpetuating an exclusive relationship that underscores their trust in Volvo’s engineering excellence.
Mark Gallagher, the UK General Manager at HMT Group, highlights the firm’s longstanding affiliation with Volvo, illustrating a deep-rooted confidence in their vehicles. According to Gallagher, the inclusion of Volvo’s I-Save technology not only augments the driving experience but also maximises efficiency, making these trucks a quintessential component of their operations. “The I-Save technology creates such an enjoyable driving experience which, combined with the spacious Globetrotter XL cab, makes for a complete all-round build,” Gallagher remarked.
The operational application of these vehicles is carefully structured to optimise their utility. Predominantly, the trucks will operate from Monday to Saturday, with a specific focus on double-manned local general haulage duties during the daytime. At night, these units will transition to perform trunking tasks for Palletline, showcasing the firm’s tactical scheduling to maximise vehicle utilisation and productivity.
HMT Group’s dedication to Volvo is further epitomised by their decision to assign the remaining units for tramping operations, where vehicles are on the road for extended periods. Gallagher emphasises the necessity for each vehicle to contribute effectively to the business’s objectives, stating: “Any new vehicle you welcome into a business like ours has to earn its wage, so we make sure to have them on the road as much as possible.”
With headquarters strategically located in Preston and additional depots in Warrenpoint, Heysham, and Dublin, HMT Group has solidified its reputation over 25 years by providing reliable transport, distribution, and storage services. Their recent fleet expansion is not merely about augmenting capacity but is also indicative of their foresight and commitment to sustainable growth within the industry.
The integration of new Volvo trucks signifies HMT Group’s relentless pursuit of operational excellence and strategic growth.
