Hinckley & Rugby Building Society has launched an innovative initiative named ‘Retrogreen’ in collaboration with Digital Buildings Limited. This programme is designed to assist homeowners in significantly enhancing the energy efficiency of their properties across the UK. With the nation’s homes requiring substantial upgrades to meet a C rating on their Energy Performance Certificates (EPC), Retrogreen seeks to bridge this gap.
Through this initiative, homeowners are provided with personalised information outlining specific energy efficiency measures suited to their homes, the associated costs, and the ability to receive quotes from pre-approved contractors. This ensures that the renovations not only improve energy efficiency but are also cost-effective and meet quality standards. The service includes post-work evaluations to ensure compliance and satisfaction.
Initially, ‘Retrogreen’ is offered to mortgage brokers within the Legal & General Mortgage Club. Three distinct mortgage products have been introduced to facilitate these upgrades. These include the Retrogreen 4.69% Fixed Rate, allowing a fixed rate until 31st January 2030 at 4.69% up to 80% Loan to Value (LTV); the Retrogreen 5.35% 2-year Fixed; and the Retrogreen 2-year Discount Variable, providing various rates and terms.
To aid in the planning process, the initiative features a tool called ‘RetroPlanner’, which empowers homeowners to develop thorough and cost-effective plans for their property improvements. Guided by a qualified team, homeowners can choose the most appropriate and financially sensible options available. Furthermore, ‘RetroAssure’ provides a comprehensive assessment of the property, including all structural and environmental aspects. This ensures homeowners have a detailed report on how to effectively proceed with energy efficiency upgrades.
Enhancing the practical implementation of home upgrades, ‘RetroVerify’ oversees the logistics, offering a checklist of required improvements and recommending reliable contractors who ensure all work is compliant with the legal and regulatory standards. Laura Sneddon from Hinckley & Rugby emphasised the critical nature of retrofitting the UK’s housing stock, highlighting the urgent need to push forward with such initiatives to support homeowner aspirations.
Colin Calder, co-founder of Digital Buildings Limited, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, underscoring the importance of providing homeowners with clear strategies and financial options to improve energy efficiency. Jane Simpson from Legal & General noted the increasing importance of retrofitting in the coming years, emphasising the potential of this initiative to meet client needs effectively.
Hinckley & Rugby’s ‘Retrogreen’ marks a forward-thinking approach to tackling energy efficiency in UK homes, offering practical solutions and financial support.
