A team of five agents from Hays Travel, located in The Rock shopping centre in Bury, made a remarkable contribution to men’s mental health support by walking over 18 miles to Manchester Airport. This challenging endeavour was undertaken earlier this month with the aim of raising funds for Andy’s Man Club, a charity focused on suicide prevention among men and promoting mental well-being.
The journey, which took eight and a half hours, was not only a test of endurance for the participants but also a significant fundraising effort. Through their walk, the team successfully accumulated £700, which will support the ongoing efforts of Andy’s Man Club. Known for its work in offering free peer-to-peer support groups both across the UK and online, the charity has been pivotal in encouraging men to speak about their mental health.
Brian Wiggins, lead facilitator at Andy’s Man Club in Bury, expressed gratitude for the agency’s initiative, saying, “Andy’s Man Club are so grateful to have been chosen as Hays Travel Bury’s designated charity for 2024. It’s great to have the support of such a great team as we continue to raise awareness and show men that it is indeed ‘okay to talk’.”
Louise Stewart, branch manager of Hays Travel Bury, praised her team’s commitment to the cause. She articulated her pride in the team, noting their achievement in completing the strenuous walk, “It’s an amazing charity that aims to remove the stigma around men’s mental health. It was a long day, but we wanted to do something that pushed us out of our comfort zone and raise as much money as possible.”
Hays Travel’s commitment to local communities is not new; each of its 490 branches is allocated a £500 budget annually for charitable activities and community support. Within the past year, their Local Community Partnership initiative has collectively donated over £140,000 to charities, substantiating their dedication to societal well-being.
The remarkable efforts by the Hays Travel team underscore the vital role of community actions in supporting mental health initiatives.
