Greggs and Fenwick have once again aligned their efforts to captivate the Newcastle culinary scene. This time, the collaboration brings forth a unique champagne bar at Fenwick’s prestigious Food Hall. The alliance follows last year’s remarkable reception of Bistro Greggs, a silver service dining style that combined Greggs’ beloved offerings with fine dining zest, attracting over 8,000 patrons within a single month.
The newly conceptualised champagne bar is tailored to invigorate the pre-Christmas buzz, offering an exclusive reservation-only dining experience from October 24 to December 25. The culinary menu, curated by Fenwick’s executive head chef Mark Reid in tandem with Greggs, includes creatively enhanced Greggs classics. Noteworthy highlights are steak bakes accompanied by a peppercorn aioli, and sausage rolls enhanced by a hot honey chilli sauce, all designed to be paired with a selection of high-calibre champagnes such as Bollinger Rosé, Laurent Perrier, and Louis Roederer Cristal.
Leo Fenwick, strategic partnerships director at Fenwick, expresses pride in revitalising the distinctive team-up with Greggs, indicating this pop-up as a vital extension of their evolving in-store dining options aimed at delivering memorable culinary encounters. The intimate venue design, reminiscent of the Belle Epoque era, features a curved bar accommodating up to 16 guests who can summon assistance using vintage, crystal bells.
Hannah Squirrell, the customer director at Greggs, shares enthusiasm for this unexpected gastronomic pairing, acknowledging that while Champagne and Greggs may not seem an intuitive combination, the previous success of the Bistro Greggs venture has set a notable precedent. This latest venture invites patrons to explore the surprising harmony between a chilled Champagne and a warm Greggs pastry, fortifying its place as a must-visit destination in Newcastle.
The collaboration between Greggs and Fenwick stands as a testament to innovative partnerships, elevating the dining scene with creative culinary offerings.
