G Adventures, in collaboration with its non-profit partner Planeterra, has announced the introduction of four pioneering social enterprises in India, each designed to provide enriching experiences for travellers while boosting the local economy. These projects come at a time when community tourism is gaining traction as a means to revitalise travel in a sustainable and meaningful way.
Among the notable projects is the Anoothi India textile workshop in the Jaipur region. This initiative empowers women from marginalised communities by providing them with skills and employment opportunities in the textile industry. Meanwhile, the Pink City Rickshaw project offers eco-friendly transportation in Jaipur, employing women from low-income households, thus offering them a stable livelihood.
Additionally, in Agra, the Sheroes Hangout café stands as a beacon of hope for acid attack survivors, offering them a platform to rebuild their lives through employment and community engagement. Furthermore, Sunder Rang in Chandelao, Rajasthan, is an arts and crafts centre that promotes the cultural heritage of the region while providing economic support to local artisans.
As the headline sponsor of the GX World Community Tourism Summit, Incredible India aims to highlight these initiatives on the global stage. Bruce Poon Tip, the founder of G Adventures and Planeterra, articulated the significance of these efforts, stating that such collaborations exemplify how tourism can offer economic support while ensuring meaningful, transformative experiences for visitors.
The summit promises attendees an immersive experience through these projects, either by direct participation or by exploring the ‘Planeterra Marketplace,’ which showcases these social enterprises and their impact. The GX Summit is poised to illustrate how tourism can evolve to benefit not only travellers but also the communities they visit, marking a pivotal moment in the tourism sector’s development.
The GX World Community Tourism Summit is set to redefine tourism industry standards by demonstrating the power of community-focused initiatives.
