In an ongoing effort to enhance educational prospects for disadvantaged youth, Forvis Mazars UK has announced the renewal of its partnership with IntoUniversity for a third consecutive year. This collaboration is designed to promote social mobility by providing critical support and opportunities to young people who might otherwise be limited in their academic pursuits.
Forvis Mazars employees have actively engaged in this partnership by volunteering their time and expertise to benefit 829 students aged 12 to 19. Over the course of two years, volunteers have participated in a range of initiatives, including business simulations, career workshops, hackathons, and a Dragon’s Den challenge, all aimed at broadening the horizons and aspirations of the participants with regard to higher education.
Furthermore, Forvis Mazars offers an 18-month mentoring programme for Year 13 students, providing guidance from the university application process through to the end of their first term. This comprehensive mentoring seeks to equip students with the knowledge and confidence needed to succeed in their academic and professional journeys.
The Mazars Charitable Trust has played a pivotal role in the success of this partnership, having donated £60,000 to support 491 students with a further £40,000 pledged for the upcoming year. This funding has enabled the delivery of workshops that focus on cultivating aspiration, improving educational outcomes, and developing key human skills.
During the first year, funding facilitated support for 237 students aged 9-10, helping them build aspirations and an understanding of higher education. In the second year, additional funding allowed more specific programmes, like Business in FOCUS and Careers in FOCUS, to serve 189 and 65 students respectively, ensuring a targeted approach to career development.
According to Phil Verity, CEO of Forvis Mazars in the UK, empowering young individuals facing social challenges to recognise their potential pathways to higher education is crucial. He expressed, ‘Enabling children and young people who are experiencing disadvantage to understand that they have options for higher education or for university is incredibly important.’ Verity highlighted the transformative power of education as a catalyst for building inclusive societies, noting the organisation’s pride in aiding young people to realise their aspirations.
Forvis Mazars’ renewal of its partnership with IntoUniversity underlines a steadfast commitment to fostering educational opportunities and advancing social mobility for disadvantaged youth in the UK.
