The launch of the Expedition Cruise Network (ECN) signals a pivotal development for the expedition cruise sector, as it positions itself to be a leading authority within this niche. Aiming to establish a global presence, the network is geared towards strengthening connections between expedition cruise operators and promoting their offerings to a well-targeted global travel trade community. Led by CEO Akvile Marozaite, an industry veteran with over 12 years of experience, and chairman Martin Johnson, founder of Latin Routes and Polar Routes, the ECN promises to be a knowledgeable entity in this growing market.
The network’s primary mission is to serve as an ‘authoritative industry voice,’ advocating on pertinent subjects such as sector challenges and sustainability. This initiative comes at a time when the expedition cruise sector, despite its considerable progression, remains underrepresented. As the ECN focuses on uniting operators towards common goals, it acknowledges the necessity of experienced guidance, a role aptly filled by Marozaite.
Integral to its offerings, the ECN will produce an annual insights report, providing members with data and analysis to facilitate informed decision-making. These reports aim to broaden the understanding of key market aspects, thereby enhancing strategic planning and operational efficiency within the expedition cruising landscape. This move is expected to empower members with comprehensive intelligence, enabling them to navigate the market’s complexities more effectively.
Membership is categorised into three distinct groups to optimise engagement and collaboration: cruise lines, travel trade professionals, and associate members committed to supporting the sector. The inaugural membership includes 11 cruise lines, such as AE Expeditions, Albatros Expeditions, Australis, Hapag Lloyd Cruises, and Hurtigruten. Additionally, travel trade professionals like agents, tour operators, and travel designers are encouraged to join, benefitting from enhanced exposure and resources that the ECN provides.
In a bid to attract early participation, the ECN has introduced an exclusive incentive for travel trade professionals joining by the end of May. Ten fortunate professionals will have the opportunity to win an ‘evening of adventure’ hosted by Lindblad Expeditions in London this June. This initiative is designed to heighten interest and engagement with the network, signifying the ECN’s commitment to fostering a vibrant and connected community.
The Expedition Cruise Network’s launch marks a significant stride in uniting and amplifying the voice of the expedition cruise sector.
