Major Travel, a trade-only operator, has reported significant growth and booking volumes through its collaboration with InteleTravel agents. This positive trend follows the acquisition of a 60% stake by InteleTravel, yet Major Travel retains operational independence. This strategic move promises to strengthen its position in the competitive travel market.
The Managing Director of Major Travel, Qasim Gulamhusein, has acknowledged the accelerated growth of the business since the acquisition deal. He emphasised that scale is critical in competing with direct-sell operators to provide agents with the best pricing and service. Expanding or leveraging scale to access exclusive products at competitive rates was identified as a necessary approach.
Following the acquisition, Major Travel’s sales through InteleTravel witnessed an upward trajectory. Despite some initial flattening in sales from certain agencies, these declines have been successfully addressed. Major Travel has fostered a strong relationship with InteleTravel since 2018, which has been beneficial in the long run.
InteleTravel’s recruitment strategy, which attracts agents who initially engage in travel sales as a secondary job, has evolved. A growing number of these agents are transitioning to full-time careers in travel, some achieving record-breaking bookings. Gulamhusein highlighted an extraordinary booking valued at £350,000, with bookings exceeeding £50,000 becoming increasingly common post-pandemic.
To further streamline operations and enhance service, InteleTravel is undertaking integration of Major Travel into its booking system. This effort aims to improve access for both InteleTravel agents and other key partners of Major Travel, ensuring more efficient service delivery.
Major Travel’s strategic partnership with InteleTravel has propelled its growth and enhanced market competitiveness.
