EasyJet holidays has officially signed up to the Safer Tourism Foundation’s Safer Tourism Pledge, marking a significant step in its ongoing commitment to ensuring the well-being of its customers. The Pledge is a comprehensive commitment created in collaboration with the travel industry, aimed at establishing a robust framework for traveller risk, health, and safety. It acknowledges companies that demonstrate exceptional safety systems and prioritise collaboration over competition when it comes to customer safety, according to the foundation.
In order to join, companies undergo a meticulous assessment of their safety management systems. By signing the pledge, travel companies agree to abide by six central commitments, all geared towards supporting the foundation’s mission. These include providing essential safety advice to travellers, encouraging personal responsibility during holidays, and attentively addressing genuine safety concerns raised by travellers to promptly resolve any issues.
Furthermore, Safer Tourism Pledge partners, including EasyJet holidays, dedicate themselves to a collaborative approach where travel safety knowledge and best practices are openly shared. This collective effort benefits all travellers by fostering an environment of trust and safety. EasyJet holidays, in particular, has committed to sharing its anonymised travel incident data with the Safer Tourism Foundation, contributing valuable insights into the causes of preventable harm and dangers to travellers.
Jonathan Perkins, the head of customer safety and wellbeing at EasyJet holidays, expresses the company’s dedication to safeguarding customers at every stage of their holiday. He states, “At EasyJet holidays, we are totally committed to being there for our customers through every stage of their holiday to ensure that everything goes right, but also to look after them on the rare occasion that their trip doesn’t go quite to plan.” This commitment highlights the company’s proactive stance in exceeding safety standards and their enthusiasm to work closely with other Pledge partners to enhance traveller safety.
Katherine Atkinson, chief executive of the Safer Tourism Foundation, lauds EasyJet holidays for its rapid growth and effective safety and risk management systems, especially impressive since the company’s inception prior to the Covid pandemic. She emphasises the foundation’s eagerness to collaborate with EasyJet holidays and other partners to not only share best practices but also to practically address safety issues to further protect travellers.
The Safer Tourism Foundation’s recent initiatives like the Pack Safe Appeal further supplement this safety effort, urging travellers to carry carbon monoxide alarms for additional safety. The foundation itself was born out of a tragic incident in 2006 involving carbon monoxide poisoning in Corfu, leading to the establishment of this independent charity in 2016 to prevent such occurrences in future.
EasyJet holidays’ participation in the Safer Tourism Pledge signifies a notable shift towards improved safety standards for travellers.
