In a forward-thinking move, DSV has converted its entire final mile fleet in London to hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO), a renewable fuel source, as part of its ambitious programme to enhance sustainability. DSV confirms that this strategic decision will not alter the quality of service provided to customers and will remain cost-neutral.
The transition reportedly supports a remarkable up to 90% reduction in CO2 emissions, thereby contributing significantly to the company’s decarbonisation roadmap. John Hawksworth, a senior director at DSV, articulated the company’s progress, stating that the results of various sustainability trials underline substantial advancements in minimising their ecological footprint.
Additionally, DSV has equipped its Purfleet site with a bespoke HVO fuel bunker which boasts a capacity of 30,000 litres. This infrastructure is pivotal, considering the fleet’s coverage of approximately two million miles annually, enabling a seamless operational workflow that fuels this vast logistical network.
Moreover, the company is actively trialling compressed natural gas (CNG) and electric vehicles across diverse locations, an endeavour that underscores its dedication to integrating alternative fuel technologies. Hawksworth lauded the potential of HVO fuel and other green technologies, emphasising their pivotal role in facilitating both DSV’s and its customers’ sustainability journey.
These measures reflect not only a substantial leap towards DSV’s carbon reduction targets but also serve as a blueprint for the broader logistics industry. By deploying these initiatives, DSV exemplifies the proactive adaptations necessary to confront contemporary environmental challenges effectively.
DSV’s comprehensive sustainability initiatives highlight a transformative shift in logistics, underscoring the potential of alternative fuels.
