This year’s finalists, selected from an impressive shortlist of 121 candidates, underscored the resilience and innovation within the sector. The ceremony was hosted by actress and comedian Jayde Adams, who added a touch of entertainment to the evening.
In a noteworthy highlight, the Footwear Business of the Year – Consumer Choice award was democratically decided by 2,000 consumers in a poll conducted in March. From a comprehensive list of 31 brands, Clarks emerged as the winner, surpassing other prominent names like JD Sports, Sports Direct, Marks & Spencer, and Shoezone.
The Lifetime Achievement Award was bestowed upon Stuart Paver, the chairman of Pavers. Established over half a century ago by Cathy Paver, the family business has become a remarkable presence with over 185 stores across the UK, Ireland, India, and the UAE. This award recognises Stuart Paver’s dedication to the footwear industry and his role in expanding the family business.
The event saw active involvement from DSV, the headline sponsor, which expressed their honour in supporting the awards. Surinder Dubro of DSV emphasised the company’s commitment to the footwear community, congratulating all participants for their contributions to the country and economy. Gabriele Dirvanauskas, Drapers’ acting editor, echoed these sentiments, praising the professionals who make the sector vibrant and economically significant.
In addition to the major awards, several categories celebrated specific achievements, including Mallet London x Reebok for Best Footwear Marketing Campaign, and Dr Martens’ Joel Wilson as Footwear Designer of the Year. Sustainability was a significant focus, with Sal’s Shoes winning Best Sustainable Initiative of the Year for their project with Clarks. This commitment to recognising varied facets of the industry highlights the awards’ comprehensive approach.
The Drapers Footwear Awards 2024 successfully celebrated the excellence and diversity of the footwear industry, setting a standard for future innovations.
