Debenhams has recently launched its new women’s fashion brand, Runway London 1.8.1.8, exclusively available through its website. This collection brings together fashionable, runway-inspired pieces offering unique and wearable designs. The name pays homage to the year 1818, when Debenhams opened its first outlet, underlining its historical significance as a distinguished British department store.
Runway London 1.8.1.8 is crafted with an emphasis on elegance and versatility, featuring a 40-piece range that includes clothing, accessories, and footwear. This varied collection is tailored to appeal to the winter party scene, showcasing items like pussy bow blouses, crochet skirts, pointed slingback heels, and lace cut-out dresses. These designs cater to a wide array of aesthetic preferences, aiming to provide something for every fashion-forward individual.
Dan Finley, the online department store’s CEO, expressed that the collection ‘pays homage to the rich history of Debenhams as the great British department store’. Furthermore, Debenhams’ transition into an online marketplace came after its acquisition by the Boohoo Group, who purchased the brand and its digital assets for £55 million in 2021 following its liquidation.
Since Boohoo’s relaunch of the Debenhams.com website in April 2021, the store has been striving to rejuvenate its brand identity and market presence. By reintroducing the ‘Designers at Debenhams’ programme and other strategic initiatives, the retailer continues to expand its fashion offerings. Nevertheless, recent rumours suggest that Boohoo might be considering a restructuring to enhance shareholder value, although specifics remain uncertain.
Debenhams, through its Runway London 1.8.1.8 collection, seeks to merge contemporary fashion with its storied legacy, securing its place in the modern retail landscape.
