Cunard has successfully captivated the attention of travel agents by organising an exhibition that presents a comprehensive glance at the company’s storied past and ambitious future. Held at the University of Liverpool’s Victoria Gallery & Museum, the exhibition, entitled ‘Travel in Style – Iconic Cunard Advertising in the 1920s and 1930s’, brought the esteemed history of this luxury cruise line to vivid life.
Amidst the historical backdrop of Liverpool, Cunard’s spiritual home, the exhibition featured 14 vintage posters, each a testament to the grandeur of early 20th-century travel. Alongside these posters were brochures, menu cards, and collectable souvenirs that painted a picture of the opulence associated with Cunard’s offerings. These artefacts were thoughtfully paired with elements that have directly inspired the design of spaces aboard the upcoming ship, Queen Anne.
The event was not only an opportunity to look back but also to share forward-looking ideas. Maurice Kulis, a personal travel advisor at Miles Morgan Travel, praised the brand, stating, “This was a very interesting event and I enjoyed seeing how an iconic brand is investing in its future by taking inspiration from its past.” His sentiments were echoed by Jane Chadwick, a Go Cruise franchisee, who remarked on the inclusive atmosphere and the captivating journey of Queen Anne as depicted through the exhibition. She stated that “Cunard is never afraid to embrace its heritage and I feel as though this exhibition really romanticises the golden era of luxury travel.”
The interaction with key figures, including designers who have been pivotal in updating the Cunard crest and evolving other design features, added depth to the exhibition experience. Carol Kirkham of Kirkham Travel highlighted the significance of these interactions, describing them as “brilliant”. These discussions offered the attending agents a rare glimpse into how tradition and innovation are seamlessly woven into the fabric of Cunard’s strategic vision, ensuring that the brand remains a revered name in luxury cruising.
Cunard’s exhibition in Liverpool was a resounding success, further strengthening its relationship with the travel agent community.
