In a bid to enhance the digital experience for passengers, Cunard and P&O Cruises are improving their on-board WiFi by implementing SpaceX’s Starlink technology. This forward-thinking initiative commenced in June 2023, with an ambitious goal to expand connectivity and bandwidth across the fleet by the end of the year.
The deployment of Starlink is set to upgrade internet access in both public spaces and cabins on Cunard’s Queen Mary 2, Queen Victoria, and Queen Elizabeth ships. By May 2024, Queen Anne, Cunard’s newest ship, will also launch with this service, marking a significant milestone in connectivity at sea.
P&O Cruises, on the other hand, have already introduced Starlink in public spaces aboard the Britannia and Azura. Plans are in place to extend this availability to both public areas and cabins on vessels including Arvia, Iona, Ventura, Arcadia, and Aurora by the end of the year. This integration will ensure that guests and staff alike can enjoy seamless connectivity.
Carnival UK and P&O Cruises president, Paul Ludlow, emphasizes the importance of this development by highlighting how sharing moments and staying updated with events back home is vital for guests. He states, “Whether it’s uploading a picture of a sunset as you sail away from a newly discovered destination or catching up with the news, live events or content from home, Starlink will make it even easier for our guests and colleagues to stay connected.”
Starlink’s Vice President of Commercial Sales, Jonathan Hofeller, echoes this sentiment by underscoring the necessity of high-speed internet in today’s travel experiences. “We’re excited that P&O Cruises and Cunard guests and crew will benefit from an improved wifi service on board wherever they are in the world,” he asserts, highlighting the global reach and impact of this technological enhancement.
These advancements signify a crucial step forward in meeting the digital connectivity needs of modern travellers on board.
