This target not only anticipates the broader UK aim of 2050 but also showcases a proactive approach towards reducing environmental impact.
A significant partnership was forged with the Energy Savings Trust and Catalyst to assess the company’s emissions footprint comprehensively. Emphasising the importance of accurate data, CSS established a baseline that encompasses Scope 1, 2, and relevant Scope 3 emissions, setting the groundwork for effective reduction strategies.
Central to these strategies is an focus on minimising Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions. Targeted initiatives include reducing emissions from company fleet cars, installing low-energy lighting solutions, deploying smart electricity and gas meters, and sourcing electricity from renewable providers. Such initiatives underscore CSS’s commitment to tangible and immediate actions.
In addressing Scope 3 emissions, which largely originate from their supply chain, CSS continues to review and assess supplier data. The aim is to foster collaboration and strive towards shared sustainability objectives, thus extending their environmental commitment beyond the immediate confines of the company.
Enhancements at the national operations centre in Derby signify another milestone in CSS’s journey towards sustainability. Commencing in June 2024, the renovations included upgrading working spaces, installing 280 LED lights, and integrating new air conditioning systems alongside energy-efficient window replacements. These efforts are predicted to yield a reduction in CO2 emissions by approximately 12 tonnes per annum.
