Co-op introduces a new 24-hour grocery delivery service in key UK city stores, enhancing consumer convenience.
- This service will be available in Leeds, London, and Manchester, targeting areas with high demand for non-traditional delivery times.
- The initiative is part of Co-op’s strategy to capture over a third of the quick commerce market through expanded online offerings.
- Research indicates strong consumer interest, particularly among Gen Z, for grocery deliveries between 11pm and 5am.
- Co-op partners with Deliveroo, Just Eat, and Uber Eats to maximise delivery efficiency and reach a larger customer base.
The Co-op is initiating a 24-hour online grocery delivery service aimed at addressing the increasing demand for speedy delivery. This month, the service will be rolled out across stores in Leeds, London, and Manchester, selected based on the strength of local online grocery demand, demographic analysis, and driver availability. These stores are strategically staffed around the clock to support replenishment and quick delivery service.
Deliveries will be executed through Co-op’s collaboration with leading e-commerce platforms Deliveroo, Just Eat, and Uber Eats, enhancing the retailer’s capacity to meet consumer demands swiftly and conveniently. Besides the 24-hour service, Co-op has broadened online shopping availability in over 1,600 stores, facilitating extended shopping hours for late-evening customers.
Co-op’s ambitious growth strategy seeks to secure more than one-third of the quick commerce market share. The move comes as part of a response to a study revealing that over 40% of quick commerce consumers would utilise a late-night delivery service if accessible. Notably, this figure escalates to nearly 50% among consumers aged 18 to 44, with 52.3% of Gen Z shoppers (aged 18 to 24) particularly interested in such offerings.
Co-op’s e-commerce director, Chris Conway, emphasised that the retailer’s approach is centred on fulfilling the evolving needs of its members and customers. He highlighted that adapting to changing lifestyles and the rise in shift work has increased the demand for grocery deliveries during unconventional hours. The widespread access provided by Co-op’s own online platform and its partnerships estimates that approximately 80% of the UK population can now access Co-op groceries.
Co-op’s expansion into 24-hour delivery signifies a strategic response to shifting consumer behaviours and demands within the UK market.
