Co-op is set to introduce six innovative suppliers through its incubator programme, the Apiary.
- These suppliers bring unique products to over 100 stores, aiming for diversity and innovation.
- Among the new brands are Cháps, Cheeky Nibble, and Loro Crisps, each offering distinct products.
- The initiative offers tailored mentoring and support, fostering supplier growth and learning.
- In September, Co-op also launched a brand accelerator to enhance smaller supplier development.
Co-op is poised to roll out six new suppliers across its store network as part of its Apiary programme. This initiative seeks to uncover and support food and drink businesses that offer a distinct market angle. By bringing these suppliers onboard, Co-op plans to enhance its range with products that resonate for their values and unique propositions.
The new suppliers will have their products stocked in over 100 Co-op locations. This move aligns with the retailer’s commitment to diversity and inclusion in its product offerings. Among the suppliers are Cháps, known for beverages influenced by African traditions, and Cheeky Nibble, a brand specialising in premium snacks and cereals. These brands, among others, illustrate the programme’s focus on distinctive market entries and high-quality products.
Rebecca Oliver, the Co-op head of commercial for drinks, community buying, and the Apiary, highlighted the excitement around seeing these products reach shelves. She emphasised that consumers in convenience settings want quality and innovative products that offer convenience or indulgence. The entry into stores marks a significant milestone for suppliers who participate in the Apiary, symbolising growth and new opportunities.
Further augmenting its support for smaller businesses, Co-op initiated a brand accelerator in September. This complements the Apiary by providing existing and new suppliers with learning opportunities, including masterclasses and networking with mentors. Additionally, it provides access to category buyer support and a gift programme aiding smaller brands through collaboration with larger suppliers.
Co-op’s initiatives underscore its commitment to fostering a diverse and innovative supplier community.
