Independent Design House Group (IDHG) has strategically expanded its operations through the acquisition of Clarkebond (UK) Ltd, a move that significantly triples the size of the consulting engineer. This expansion marks a notable increase in IDHG’s geographical footprint, extending its operational reach to include Bristol, Maidstone, London, Exeter, as well as sites in Ireland and Poland. With this acquisition, IDHG is set to bolster its market position with an estimated turnover exceeding £10 million annually.
In maintaining continuity and fostering leadership, Tim Burt will remain as the chief executive officer of IDHG, and the group will keep its headquarters in Bristol. This central position is strategic as both firms have operational bases in the city. Additionally, Clarkebond’s commercial director, Neil Marks, is set to join IDHG’s senior management team, bringing with him valuable expertise and insight.
Since its inception in 2011 by founders Tim Burt and Wojciech Wisniowski in Rochester, Kent, IDHG has steadily grown. Through this acquisition, it transitions into a multi-disciplined engineering consultancy capable of delivering comprehensive services from concept through to construction. Ian Fernandes-Johnson, who joined as managing director in 2020, emphasised the transformative nature of integrating Clarkebond’s skill set into IDHG’s existing capabilities, considering it a ‘game changer’.
