Clarion has initiated a groundbreaking leadership development programme that underscores its dedication to cultivating future leaders. This programme, tailored to enhance the skills of aspiring leaders, recently celebrated its first cohort of 30 graduates, comprising lawyers and managers who underwent an intensive nine-month course.
In collaboration with organisational psychologist Dr Mark Neath, Clarion crafted a bespoke curriculum intended to elevate participants’ leadership capabilities. Dr Neath, renowned for his extensive experience across diverse sectors, designed six modules focusing on key areas such as interpersonal communication, managing change, coaching, personal resilience, branding, and team performance.
This innovative programme invited central team managers, legal directors, and senior associates from within the firm to self-nominate, beginning last summer. Participants engaged in full-day workshops at an off-site venue conducive to novel thinking and also took part in online sessions, facilitating a blend of face-to-face and digital learning experiences.
Remarkably, the programme embraced a coaching-style methodology, which was enriched by practical applications derived from real-world situations. Participants delivered short interviews or presentations, fostering dynamic discussions both with each other and the programme’s creators.
Helen Saunders, Clarion’s head of people, highlighted the mutual benefits gained from this initiative, noting the empowerment and enriched conversations now taking place within the firm. Furthermore, this programme symbolises just the commencement of Clarion’s broader leadership development strategy, with plans to extend training to partners and senior management.
Participants, such as senior associate Lois Davey, expressed the practical benefits of the training, particularly appreciating the facilitator’s expertise and the applicability of the course content in their daily operations. Davey remarked on the value of group discussions that highlighted shared objectives among colleagues.
