In a spirited display of teamwork and community support, a charity football event held at Ilkeston Town Football Club successfully amassed over £17,000 for the international development charity, Transaid. The match featured fifteen dedicated employees from Microlise Group who took to the pitch, engaging in friendly competition with fourteen other teams from various industries.
The tournament adopted a seven-a-side format, culminating in a thrilling final where the Dawsongroup’s Smart Asset Wanderers triumphed over Brigade Electronics with a decisive 3-0 victory. Teams such as Blue Cube, Boughey, Goodyear, GXO, Iron Mountain, RHA, MAN, Libra Europe, and Michelin also brought their A-game to the event, demonstrating admirable sportsmanship and competitive spirit.
A notable aspect of the day was the generous contribution from Creed, which for the second consecutive year, supplied a variety of refreshments for the players, including soft drinks, crisps, snacks, and ice creams. Participating teams also showed their support by providing raffle prizes valued up to £50 each, further enhancing the fundraising efforts for the day.
Transaid, an organisation dedicated to improving road safety and transport systems in sub-Saharan Africa, will utilise the funds raised to continue their impactful work. By collaborating with local communities, governments, and the private sector, Transaid aims to develop sustainable transport networks and advocate for policies that promote safe and accessible transportation in the region.
