Carnival Cruise Line is set to transform its cruise offerings with substantial expansions at its new Grand Bahama island location. The pivotal development includes a $100 million pier extension at Celebration Key, poised to accommodate four Excel-class ships simultaneously by 2026. This strategic move aims to bolster the island’s capacity, facilitating a visitor influx.
Anticipating a surge in tourism, Carnival plans for nearly four million passengers annually visiting the island by 2028. The highly anticipated beach destination is scheduled to debut in summer 2025, supported by a comprehensive investment of $600 million, inclusive of the pier enhancement. Early projections estimate that the initial phase, featuring the original two berths, will attract 2.2 million annual passengers starting next year.
Celebration Key promises an exceptional experience with its five meticulously designed areas or ‘portals,’ each offering unique attractions. These amenities are set to include a mile-long beach, pristine freshwater lagoons, alongside diverse dining, shopping, and entertainment facilities, all tailored to provide a captivating visitor experience.
Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line, emphasised the scale and ambition of the project by stating, ‘As is fitting for our plans for Grand Bahama island, our vision for Celebration Key is quite grand, and we’re already thinking about the next phase of expansion and development.’ This underscores the importance of the investment to Carnival and its long-term strategic interests on the island. The construction of the second pier not only supports Carnival’s growth aspirations but also demonstrates a commitment to creating itineraries with certainty, signalling to the local community the development’s significance to the region.
Carnival’s investment in Celebration Key marks a significant step towards enhancing cruise tourism in the Bahamas, reflecting its forward-thinking vision.
