Danish brewer Carlsberg has agreed a deal to acquire UK-based soft drinks maker Britvic.
It comes after Britvic’s board of directors rejected a previous offer from Carlsberg last month.
Under the terms of the agreement Carlsberg will pay £13.15 per share or a total of £3.3bn to take over Britvic, whose brands include Robinsons, R. White’s, Tango and J2O.
Britvic chairman Ian Durant said that the combination with Carlsberg would create “an enlarged international group that is well-placed to capture the growth opportunities in multiple drinks sectors”.
Carlsberg intends to create a single integrated beverage company in the UK, named Carlsberg Britvic.
In a separate deal also announced on Monday, Carlsberg has agreed to take full control of its brewing joint venture with pub operator Marston’s.
Marston’s confirmed it will receive £206m for its 40% stake in Carlsberg Marston’s Limited as it plans to focus “entirely on pubs”. The company operates around 1,370 pubs across the UK.
