Campeys of Selby, a renowned family-led haulage firm, has recently committed to a 10-year lease at the innovative Konect62 site. This pioneering multi-modal logistics and industrial scheme is located in the historic industrial hub of Knottingley, Yorkshire, specifically on the grounds of the former Kellingley Colliery. With this strategic move, Campeys of Selby aims to bolster its food storage and distribution services, which span the breadth of the United Kingdom.
With over 170 employees and a fleet of 390 vehicles, Campeys of Selby has firmly established itself as a leader in the logistics sector, offering comprehensive warehousing solutions to an extensive range of clients. Their recent accolade as the 2024 Haulier of the Year underlines their commitment to excellence and innovative transport solutions.
The first developmental phase of Konect62 boasts a speculative build of 375,000 square feet of premier logistic and industrial space. This includes a 61,065 square foot warehouse secured by Campeys, complete with first-floor office space, a substantial service yard, and 148 parking spaces, including eight for electric vehicles. Such facilities highlight the location’s capacity to support expansive logistical operations.
Harry Campey, the commercial and operations director, expressed enthusiasm for the site’s high-quality build and strategic placement near major transport routes like the M62 and A1. He noted the site’s readiness to meet stringent standards, such as the BRCGS Food Safety Global Standard and various ISO accreditations. Campeys is committed to sustainability and safety, aligning with Konect62’s market-leading ESG credentials.
Phase one of Konect62 sees the availability of a unit spanning 151,000 square feet, alongside potential future developments like ‘Big K’, a 735,000 square foot facility projected to be operational within 40 weeks. Once completed, Konect62 will significantly contribute to the local economy, generating numerous job opportunities and showcasing cutting-edge low-carbon construction techniques.
Robert Titterton, representing Cole Waterhouse, emphasised the site’s transformative impact on the region, highlighting its success in attracting local and international businesses. The development of Konect62 marks a substantial investment, breathing new life into the site of a former coal mine, with the potential to deliver a total of 1.9 million square feet of premier business space.
